What are torque sensors?

Torque sensors of torque sensors measure and record the torque of a rotating system, such as an engine, crankshaft, gearbox, transmission or rotor. Torque is a measure of the rotational effect of a force.

Non-rotating torque sensors (reactive or static torque converters) are generally used for reaction measurements in the most diverse applications. They are wear-free and, like all our torque sensors, designed in such a way that the limiting shear force and the limiting pressure load, specified in our technical data, have only a minimal load on the sensor element and therefore do not influence the measurement result.

Rotary torque converters with slip rings an analog, unamplified strain gauge output signal in mV/V, which is transmitted via high-quality, wear-resistant slip rings. Slip ring sensors are generally used for individual, random inspections or torque measurements, carried out at low speed.

Torque converters with contactless transmission are supplied as active sensors with integrated measuring amplifiers; standard analogue ±5V, optional ±10V or digital RS485 or USB are available as output signals. Due to the contactless transmission, the measured data are transmitted between rotor and stator without maintenance and without signal distortion. Integrated speed/angle measurement is available as an option for almost all contactless sensors.
